Whole spike of a hybrid between the Monkey Orchid Orchis simia and the Lady Orchid Orchis purpurea photographed in Oxfordshire.
Botanically speaking, this is known as Orchis ×angusticruris but it is fondly referred to as a "Lonkey" by "Anthropomorphic Orchis" fans.
The small purple patches in the background arise from additional hybrid plants in what has become a growing colony of “Lonkeys” located close to two Lady Orchids (MN054) and within a very well established large population of Monkey Orchids (MN048 and MN053).
