Emperor Moth
The Emperor is one of the more impressive spring species with large, colourful, day-flying males. These are attracted by pheromone signals produced by the females, which have a distinct wing pattern.
Males can be attracted by virgin females or by a chemical lure that mimics the pheromone.
Here are some recent photographs of Emperor moths involving captive reared virgin females and wild males attracted by them and by the use of an EMP lure. The latter is commercially available from Jon Clifton at Anglian lepidopterist Supplies.
