Oleander Hawkmoth Life Cycle
Here are some recent images of the Oleander Hawkmoth. This species is a very rare migrant to the UK, making it highly unlikely to be encountered in the wild. Accordingly, these photographs have been obtained by rearing from eggs.
Before the larvae pupate they undergo a colour change, darkening from from lime green to olive or brown. Probably, this reflects their changing camouflage needs as they move from feeding on green leaves to hiding in the soil.
The adult stage provides one of the most spectacular hawkmoths, with seriously colourful wing patterns.
